Planettiana Municipal Library

As places of learning and remembrance, Jesi’s libraries preserve
both ancient and contemporary knowledge, offering spaces for study, socialising and discovery for the community.

The Planettiana Municipal Library, placed in the Renaissance Palazzo della Signoria, designed by the Siena-born architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini, was founded in 1859 thanks to the donation of the Marquis Angelo Ghislieri’s library and takes its name from the precious book and archive collection donated by the Pianetti family to the Municipality of Jesi.

It houses numerous ancient collections (manuscripts, incunabula, sixteenth-century books, prints, drawings, photos, etc.), the result of significant donations from organisations and private individuals, which together with the modern collections make up a heritage of considerable quantitative and qualitative consistency.

It is flanked by the Municipal Historical Archive and numerous archives of organisations and private individuals, which are frequently consulted for research and studies.

Since 2014, the Library has been enriched by the public reading section, placed in the Salara (ground floor).

The children’s and young people’s section remains detached, placed in Via San Giuseppe 36.

The library periodically organises cultural and reading promotion events aimed at various age groups.

The Planettiana Library has been a member of the National Library Service (SBN) since 1990, and is currently a partner of the Marche Region as an assistance point for libraries in the Province of Ancona within the North Marche Library Group.
