Galleria with stucco work and Art Gallery

From collections of sacred art to Renaissance masterpieces,
right through to multimedia museums: in Jesi, history and culture come to life in unique settings.

On the first floor of Palazzo Pianetti, the so-called piano nobile, is the Galleria with colourful stucco work and the Civic Art Gallery.

The Galleria, more than 70 metres long, is a true exaltation of Rococo style, a rare example in central Italy.

Its decorations can be interpreted as “the adventure of man in time and space”.

Time is represented here through months, seasons, zodiac signs, day and night.

Man experiences time immersed in Nature which becomes Air, Water, Earth and Fire and rediscovers space through the continents known at the time, that is Europe, Africa, Asia and America.

Underpinning the entire human journey are the Liberal Arts such as Sculpture, Painting, Music and Architecture, synonymous with human creativity.

Six rooms decorated with the Stories of Aeneas open onto the Gallery.

Within these elegant spaces is the Civic Art Gallery.

The original collection consists of religious works dating from the 15th to the 19th century, originally placed in various town churches.

Other paintings obtained through bequests, deposits, donations and purchases have been added over time.

The main point of interest of all the collection is a large number of works by Lorenzo Lotto, a well known painter from Veneto, carried out between 1512 and 1535: the Deposition, the Annunciation, the Madonna of the Roses, St. Lucy Altarpiece and the Visitation.

Something else of interest is the series of 18th-century ceramic vases from the apothecary of the former hospital in Jesi consisting of more than two hundred pieces.
