Diocesan Library
‘Card. Pier Matteo Petrucci’
As places of learning and remembrance, Jesi’s libraries preserve
both ancient and contemporary knowledge, offering spaces for study, socialising and discovery for the community.
The Diocesan Library ‘Card. Pier Matteo Petrucci’, founded in January 1995, is placed in the 18th century Palazzo Ripanti Vecchio, in Piazza Federico II. It is a historical, theological, ascetical-agiographic library, with numerous books on Art History and essays on philosophy, literature and sociology.
It houses historical funds of the Oratory Fathers, the Conventual Fathers once in San Floriano and the Fathers of the old Seminary, but it is also possible to find precious sixteenth-centuries and the Philippine funds that are linked to the personal library of Card.
Petrucci, Bishop of Jesi and writer involved in the 17th century Quietist controversy.
The library has been updated more recently with contributions from modern day priests and direct purchases.
During the year it is active in promoting cultural meetings on historical or topical subjects. Its participation in the North Marche Library Group allows online consultation of the catalogue.
