Monument to Pergolesi

The monument to Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, born on 4th January 1710, is located in the small square by the same name.
Erected in 1910, the statue is the work of Carrara-born sculptor Alessandro Lazzerini and constitutes one of the rare examples of the Art Nouveau style in the Marche region. The musician is portrayed as he is modulating a vocal and instrumental concert, together with both female (Song) and male (Sound) allegorical figures. A bas-relief alludes to Love and to Death and two small masks symbolize Tragedy and Comedy.
