San Marcello\u00a0<\/span>was<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>fortress<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>built<\/span>\u00a0on the\u00a0<\/span>hills<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>surrounding<\/span>\u00a0Jesi to\u00a0<\/span>defend<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>this<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>town<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>It<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>took<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>its<\/span>\u00a0name after the Pope\u00a0<\/span>Marcellus<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>who<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>sent<\/span>\u00a0Saint\u00a0<\/span>Septimius<\/span>\u00a0to Jesi to\u00a0<\/span>evangelize<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>its<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>inhabitants<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>at<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>beginning<\/span>\u00a0of the 4th\u00a0<\/span>century<\/span>\u00a0A.D.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
