The Town Hall

Erected on the foundations of the citadel-fortress that was the work of Baccio Pontelli, it was built in the late 1500s to house the Civil Magistracy which had been forced to leave Palazzo della Signoria in 1585 to allow room for the Pontifical Governor. Later refurbished in 1773, the building has two façades; the main one faces Piazza Indipendenza and the other, with its balcony, looks out on Piazza della Repubblica.
