Madonna delle Grazie Sanctuary

The history of the sanctuary dates back to 1456 when a small shrine containing a frescoed image of the Virgin Mary was converted into a chapel, in thanksgiving for the graces received when the town was freed of the Plague.

It was later incorporated into a much larger building and then underwent a Baroque restyling in the 1700s. The original chapel still conserves the 15th-c. fresco painting of the Madonna of Mercy, by Andrea di Bartolo.
Flanking it are two 19th-c. paintings that depict the miraculous interventions of the Virgin, against the Plague and later, in 1557 against a siege by the French.
